I grew up in a very small coastal town in Northern California, and the local farmers grew fields upon fields of beautiful artichokes that we could buy fresh picked from one of their small farm stands they would set up right on their property. I used to love stopping by one the many stands right off the road on my way home from work and picking up my fresh, really fresh, veggies for dinner at night. I believe the cooler coastal climate, with the early evening fog rolling in from the ocean was what made artichokes grow so abundantly there.

I'm so thankful for this super simple recipe. My husband and I thought that this was heavenly and so so delicious. Forget the haters and try this recipe! Save the fussiness for macarons. I add lemon juice to the steaming water but otherwise this is the recipe I've made for years and everyone devours them. Are you kidding? I have been making artichokes for 70 years just exactly this way. Do you cut a roast or chicken in half? Very little work for such a lovely heart. Anyone who's ever made artichokes sees that this recipe is over-simplified.
